Dental Emergencies and Dental Care

A dental emergency is a dental problem in a person's mouth that requires instant relief, including relief from tooth pain, a knocked out tooth and multiple teeth discomfort. All oral emergency care should rely on a dentist opinion before attempting any 'at home' remedies.

Emergencies can happen anywhere, any place, and the same can be said for dental emergencies as well. A dental emergency can be any injury resulting from trauma to the face/oral area and can lead to excruciating tooth pain. This can cause bleeding, dislodging of teeth, lost tooth, broken tooth or a tooth fracture. Any immediate remedy that is given to save the tooth, reduce swelling and stop bleeding in the oral region can be classed as emergency dental care.

Other teeth emergencies such as missing or lost filling, wisdom tooth pain, broken tooth, teeth getting dislodged or loosened, gum abscess, cuts to your cheek/mouth and facial infections.

In worst cases, a tooth infection may lead to widespread dental pain and life threatening issues. If you experience any dental issues or if pain persists, we highly recommend you book an appointment with our dentist immediately.

  • Call us now and we will see you on the same day to remove your pain*
  • Open late nights and weekends

Dental emergencies can happen at any time, and it is important that you receive urgent treatment as soon as possible. Some injuries require care from a dentist immediately, whilst others can be managed at home via pain relief options (pain medication, warm salty water, cold compress, ice pack etc). These simple methods can help to reduce swelling and provide relief from the pain caused by the affected tooth.

To decide on whether your emergency requires a cold compress, ice pack or warm water; give us a call and we will endeavour to fit you in or at least help with a phone consult.

Common Dental Emergencies

Common dental emergencies include but aren't limited to:

  • Wisdom teeth pain
  • Knocked out tooth, chipped or cracked tooth, damaged tooth
  • Damaged or lost filling
  • Tooth Fracture
  • Cuts to lips or cheeks
  • Damaged gum tissue
  • Any other dental injury requiring urgent care

As a general rule, if you do lose a tooth, please find it, store it in milk/saline. It is best to store with milk than wrapped in a clean cloth. Whatever you do, do NOT rub/wash with warm water/play with the tooth. Contact our dental clinic immediately as the tooth can sometimes be re implanted.

If the tooth is loose in the mouth but dislodged, leave it alone and contact our friendly dentist for an appointment/further advice.
