What snacks are safe for my children?

  • Raw veggies, nuts, cheese, lean meats and breadsticks are nice safe options for snacks
  • Decay is caused by how frequent you snack and how long you are exposed to food at any one time.
  • This does not just mean fizzy drinks and lollies but also foods high in natural sugars or starch
  • Ideally aim for under 5g of sugar per 100g
  • Snacking between main meals and should be light and low in sugar
  • Fresh is best, packaged foods tend have higher sugar content
  • Avoid sticky, gummy, chewy or sweets foods
  • Avoid grazing
  • Limit fruit to two servings per day (while fruit is good for little ones but can be harmful in high dosages)
  • Always give kids water with every meal to help wash away food that is lingering around the mouth
